John’s journey began with a clear vision: to contribute to the field of healthcare and make impactful changes in the lives of many. Armed with an engineering degree and a drive for excellence, he embarked on a path that would lead him to become a leader in the healthcare industry.
His extensive experience in the healthcare industry spans various leadership roles, including heading the national sales operation at Varian Medical Systems in the USA and serving as the national head of Sumitomo Proton Therapy in Japan. His strategic acumen has been instrumental in enhancing Apollo’s Cancer Care Management Programme, where he has leveraged his tactical insights to improve the efficacy of oncology programs. With a keen eye for competitive market trends, John has successfully driven business profitability and spearheaded marketing and business development initiatives in the oncology sector.
A pivotal moment in John’s career came in 2019, when he led the first Proton Therapy Project in South Asia & The Middle East at the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre. As the key project lead, he oversaw the end-to-end establishment of this pioneering proton therapy center, which emerged as a “World Class Comprehensive Cancer Centre” under his leadership. His involvement extended to equipment configuration, infrastructure design, and project coordination with IBA & AERB, culminating in the successful commencement of clinical operations in January 2019.
During the initial two years of operation, John played a crucial role in treating over 300 Proton Therapy patients worldwide. Under his leadership as the COO of Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, the institution achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first dedicated cancer hospital in the country to be accredited by JCI and achieving positive EBITDA despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. This accomplishment underscores his strength as an operational leader with a keen focus on excellence. Additionally, the Centre was honored with the prestigious Indian Radiation Oncology Technology Leadership Award by Frost & Sullivan, further cementing its reputation as a leader in oncology.
